Mustangs even record with sweep
INDEPENDENCE — Independence overcame a difficult night at the plate to even its season and conference records with a pair of victories over Anamosa Monday night.
The Mustangs had just one hit in a 4-1 victory in the opener while scattering five hits in a 4-0 nightcap shutout.
Sophomore Catie Flaucher threw both games for IHS, striking out 11 in the opener and 12 in the nightcap.
The wins move Indee to 11-11 overall and 6-6 in the WaMaC. They have won 10 of their last 14 games after starting the season 1-7.
Kristin Maynard was Indee’s offensive star, providing the lone hit in the opener and a pair of hits and three runs batted in during game two.
The Mustangs host Benton Community tonight and their own tournament Saturday.
