Popular Celtic music troupe, Gaelic Storm, will headline opening night of the second annual Iowa Irish Fest, Aug. 1-3, in Lincoln Park, Waterloo, with ticket prices set at $5 per day or $10 for the weekend.
The entertainment schedule will continue with other international headliners, workshops and more on Saturday, Aug. 2, and Sunday, Aug. 3. For a complete schedule, visit www.iowairishfest.com.
Gaelic Storm, a five-piece band formed on St. Patrick's Day 1996, gained national notoriety when they appeared as the "party band" in the steerage scene of the 1997 blockbuster movie Titanic and were featured on the movie's soundtrack.
"They are an international music sensation that people have traveled hundreds of miles and paid $50 or more to see perform," said Cedar Valley Irish Cultural Association President, Jim Walsh. "We are bringing them right here to downtown Waterloo for only $5 per person."
Iowa Irish Fest is a three-day festival featuring Irish culture, music, crafts and food and beverage. The second annual festival will feature three stages of live music starting on Friday, Aug. 1, at 4 p.m. with a parade and performance by the Iowa Scottish Pipes and Drums followed by The Cottars.
Gaelic Storm, sponsored by Yantis and Associates and the Waterloo Convention and Visitor's Bureau, will perform from 6:30 to 8 p.m. and the world famous Trinity Irish Dancers will be onstage from 8:30 to 9 p.m. Returning Iowa Irish Fest act and crowd favorite, The Killdares, will close Friday night's entertainment on the Lincoln Park Stage.
Live music will also be featured on the Lafayette Street Stage and the Jameson's Pub Stage all three days.
Gaelic Storm's high energy, up beat, Irish pub sing-along tunes are the basis of six albums and two national tours. Their most recent album, Bring Yer Wellies, debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard World Chart and features the mellow tune, Kiss Me I'm Irish, a perfect St. Patrick's Day celebration tune. The song can be downloaded for free from the band's Web site for a limited time, www.gaelicstorm.com.
