Fayette County Fair starts next week


The Backhome Boys will perform at the Fayette County Fair in West Union, Thursday, July 24, 7:30 p.m. at the grandstand.

WEST UNION – The 155th annual Fayette County Fair will be Tuesday, July 22, through Saturday, July 26, on the county fairgrounds in West Union.

Daily activities include:

Tuesday, July 22

6:30-8:30 a.m. – Exhibitor breakfast in the Stephens Building.


7:30-8:30 a.m. – 4-H and FFA horse show check-in for halter classes only.

9 a.m. – Bucket/bottle calf check-in, Stephens Building.

9 a.m. – 4-H and FFA horse show in the horse arena.

9 a.m. – Open class baked and canned goods judging in the 4-H Building.

9 a.m.– Open class textile judging in the 4-H building.

10 a.m.– Bucket/bottle calf show in the Stephens Building.

11 a.m.– 4-H/FFA horse show check-in for horses competing in games only.

Noon-8 p.m. – Schoolhouse is open.

Noon – Open class arts and crafts judging results and reasons in Floral Hall.

Noon-4 p.m. – Woodcarving demonstrations at the Log Cabin.

Noon-12:45 p.m. – Registration for mud volleyball, grades 4-8, behind Commercial Exhibit Building.

12:30 p.m.– Open class flower and plant judging in Floral Hall.

1 p.m.– Open class photography judging in Floral Hall.

1 p.m.– 4-H/FFA meat goat show in the Stephens Building.

1 p.m. – Kid's coloring quilt blocks at the schoolhouse.

1 p.m. – Mud volleyball tournament for grades 4-8.

1:30 p.m. – Open class grain, fruits and vegetable judging in Floral Hall.

2 p.m. – 4-H/FFA sheep show in the Stephens Building.

2-6 p.m. – Rosemaling demonstrations at the Log Cabin.

6 p.m. – Crowning of the Fayette County Fair Queen at the bandstand.

6:15 p.m. – Talent show in the dance pavilion.

7 p.m. – Carnival opens.

7 p.m. – Late model stock car races at the grandstand, with hot laps at 6:30 p.m.

9 p.m.-12 a.m. – Teen dance, with "Bump in The Night," in the dance pavilion.

Wednesday, July 23

(Senior citizen gate

admission is $1)

8 a.m. – 4-H/FFA beef show in the Stephens Building.

9 a.m. – Registration for men's horseshoe pitching.

10 a.m.– Horseshoe pitching, men's singles.

10 a.m.-1 p.m. – Bingo in the dance pavilion.

Noon – 4-H/FFA live broiler show in the round barn.

Noon-8 p.m. – Schoolhouse is open.

Noon-4 p.m. – English paper piecing and circular sock machine at the Log Cabin.

1 p.m. – Spelling bee at the schoolhouse.

1 p.m. – Open class beef show in the Stephens Building.

1 p.m. – 4-H/FFA poultry show in the round barn.

1 p.m. – Skidloader rodeo at the grandstand.

2-5 p.m. – Live music by the Toe Tappers in the dance pavilion.

2:30 p.m. – 4-H/FFA rabbit show in the round barn.

3:30 p.m. – 4-H style show at the bandstand.

4-6 p.m.– Jackpot steer and heifer show weigh-in at the Stephens Building.

4:30-6 p.m. – Upper Iowa Kennel Club dog demonstrations at the bandstand.

5-9 p.m. – Carnival wrist bands on the midway.

7 p.m. – Jackpot steer and heifer show in the Stephens building.

7 p.m. – Comedy hypnotist Alan Sands at the grandstand.

Thursday, July 24

8 a.m. – 4-H and FFA hog show in the Stephens Building.

Noon – 4-H/FFA dairy milking cows must be stalled.

Noon-8 p.m. – Schoolhouse is open.

Noon-4 p.m.– Rubber stamping and scrapbooking demonstrations at the Log Cabin.

Noon – 4-H/FFA beef ultrasound, followed by sheep, then swine in the Stephens Building.

Noon-12:45 p.m. – Registration for mud volleyball, grades 9-12, behind the Commercial Exhibit Building.

Noon-1:30 p.m. – 4-H/FFA dairy milking cow check-in.

1 p.m. – Mud volleyball tournament, grades 9-12.

1:30 p.m. – Animals arrive for the Clover Kids small animal judging.

2 p.m. – Clover Kids small animal judging.

3-7 p.m. – Health fair at the dance pavilion.

4-8 p.m. – Quilting demonstrations at the log Cabin.

4-5 p.m. – Open class hog weigh-in at the hog barn.

4-8 p.m. – Mike McAbee at the bandstand.

5 p.m. – Carnival opens.

5:30-7:30 p.m. – Free barbecue sponsored by the banks of Fayette County near the schoolhouse.

7 p.m – Open class hog show at the Stephens Building.

7:30 p.m. – The Back Home Boys at the grandstand.

9 p.m.-12:30 a.m. – Live music by Bad Habits in the beer garden.

Friday, July 25

Kids Day

(Child gate admission is free)

8:30 a.m. – 4-H/FFA dairy goat show in the Stephens Building.

9 a.m. – 4-H/FFA dairy cattle show in the Stephens Building.

Noon-8 p.m. – Schoolhouse is open.

Noon-6 p.m. – Blue ribbon dairy cattle arrive, south entrance of fairgrounds.

Noon-4 p.m. – Spinning demonstrations at the Log Cabin.

Noon – Horseshoe pitching, youth up to 12 years of age.

1-5 p.m. – Mr. Nick near the bandstand.

1:30 p.m. – Kiddie tractor pull near the 4-H Exhibit Building.

2-5 p.m. – Mike McAbee at the bandstand.

2 p.m.– Horseshoe pitching, women.

2-6 p.m. – Carnival wristbands on the midway.

3-4 p.m. – Wacky World of Worms near the bandstand.

3-5 p.m. – Kids activities and free face painting near the Log Cabin.

4-8 p.m. – Woodcarving demonstrations at the Log Cabin.

5:30 p.m. – Wine tasting at the dance pavilion.

6-7 p.m. – Musical entertainment by The God Squad from St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Westgate, at the bandstand.

7 p.m. – Extreme bull riding at the grandstand.

9 p.m-12:30 a.m. – Live music by County Road Band at the beer garden/dance pavilion.

Saturday, July 26

(Gate admission is free for all)

8 a.m.-noon – Community breakfast in the dance pavilion.

8:30 a.m. – Fayette County road race near the secretary's office.

9 a.m. – Horseshoe pitching, open, ages 14 and over.

9 a.m. – Open horse show in the horse arena.

9 a.m.– Blue ribbon dairy show in the Stephens Building.

9 a.m.– 4-H/FFA pet check-in near the bandstand.

10 a.m. – 4-H/FFA pet show.

10 a.m. – 4-H/FFA dog show check-in near the bandstand.

11 a.m. – 4-H/FFA dog show.

11 a.m.– Judging of bloody mary contest at the dance pavilion.

Noon – Schoolhouse opens.

Noon-1 p.m. – Kiddie calf showmanship judging in the Stephens Building.

Noon-4 p.m. – Woodcarving demonstrations near the Log Cabin.

Noon-12:45 p.m. – Mud volleyball registration, adult division, behind Commercial Exhibit Building.

1 p.m. – Mud volleyball tournament, adult division.

1 p.m. – Carnival opens.

2-2:30 p.m. – Expression dance studio at the bandstand.

3 p.m. – Judging of Farm Bureau's cookout contest.

4 p.m – 4-H/FFA achievement auction in the Stephens Building.

7 p.m. – Combine demolition derby and car demolition derby at the grandstand.

9 p.m.-12:30 a.m. – Live music by Midlife Crisis in the beer garden/dance pavilion.
