VINTON — Despite the heat and the heavy rainfall the night before the races at Benton County Speedway continued on.
Starting off the night was the IMCA Sport Compacts were Doug Laughridge dominated the field for another victory this season. From the start Laughridge charged to the front and that is where he stayed easily pulling away from the field. A real battle broke behind Laughridge for the second and third spots. Laughridge with was now half a lap ahead of the field but Merv Chandler was now broke free from the pack and working towards Laughridge, but Chandler didn’t have enough time as Laughridge took the checkers easily. Merv Chandler, Nathan Chandler, and Michael Mitchell rounded out the top four respectively.
Damon Murty took a win in the IMCA SportMod division this week. Murty took the early lead while Kyle Bentley and Joe Docekal were gaining ground on him. Docekal who seemed to have his line passed Bentley with the laps winding down and was looking ahead towards Murty. With the checkers waving Murty took the win followed by Docekal, Bentley, Drew Fish, and Joel Car.
In the IMCA Stock Cars a first time winner at the speedway occurred. Jason DeShaw grabbed the early lead and took it all the way to victory lane. DeShaw seemed to have no issues as he was being chased by Rick Speck. Sean Johnson was on the move but he wasn’t able to catch Speck. DeShaw and Speck were pulling away from the field as Johnson, Curtis Roster and Scooter Dulin all were in the chase. With the laps winding down Speck was gaining on DeShaw but DeShaw maintained his line and took the checkers first follow by Speck, Johnson, Roster and Dulin.
A hard battle in the IMCA Modifieds occurred again this week. As it seemed Shawn Fisher would be a hard challenge to beat again this week. Fisher started in fourth and within in few laps took the lead. Fisher ran the high line and was pulling away from the field as Scott Hogan and Troy Cordes were working through the pack. Hogan and Cordes broke free and were on the hunt towards Fisher. A caution caused the field to bunch up causing Fisher to loose his big lead and Hogan and Cordes right behind. Hogan was about to pass Fisher on the restart but another yellow flew, giving Fisher the lead back. Hogan dived down low again on the second restart as Fisher went high. As Fisher was moving into the corner a mechanical issue occurred causing Fisher to have to go to the pits with four laps left. Scott Hogan had the lead and took it to the checkered with Cordes, Adam Johnson, and Brian Krall rounding out the top four respectively.
The IMCA Hobby Stocks gave the crowd a show. From the start Matt Brown took charge, but points leader Chris Luloff had worked his way from his eighth starting place with ease to the front. Luloff had Brown in his sights and passed him. Luloff began to pull away easily and started towards the lap traffic. As Luloff was going around the traffic bumping began causing damage to his car. Having body parts hanging off his car Luloff wasn’t able to continue the race without taking it in. Luloff received the black flag and went into the pits giving Matt Brown the lead. Brown took the lead to the checkered as he took his victory followed by Brad Forbes, Nick Murty, and Josh Irvine.
The Two-Person Crusiers had a new winner this week as Jacob Keiser took the checkers. Doug Steggall’s team seemed to be the only challenge for Kesier as they battled for the lead but Keiser was able to beat them to the checkers. Following Steggall was Kevin Opah’s team and Dustin Chopstick rounded out the top four respectively.
