Law center above FEMA 50 percent threshold

The Benton County Supervisors will meet with FEMA representatives and Sheriff Randy Forsyth at 10 a.m. Thursday morning for more discussions about the future of the Law Enforcement Center.
The estimate from the Durant engineering firm determined it would cost approximately $3.88 million to build a brand new building identical to the current structure, and nearly $3.45 million to repair the current structure.
Those figures were presented to local leaders during the supervisors’ regularly meeting Tuesday morning.
Benton County Sheriff Randy Forsyth said that the next step is for FEMA representatives to review the engineer’s estimates. Asked if it would be the first of several meetings, Forsyth said, “Yes, I am sure it is.” He said he hopes Thursday’s meetings helps local and federal officials to “keep it moving” so the jail, communications center and Sheriff’s Offices can return as soon as possible.
The meeting will take place in the office of Auditor Jill Marlow at 10 a.m Thursday. The supervisors’ meeting room is currently the temporary home of the 911 dispatching station, which was part of the flooded law center.
