Flood information meeting Sept. 10
A Flood Information Update meeting will be held for residents of Benton County and anyone working with individuals affected by this past summer’s flood. The meeting will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 10, at 6:30 PM in the Vinton Shellsburg High School Auditorium, 210 West 21st Street, Vinton, IA 52349.
Representatives of FEMA, SBA and local government will provide an update on assistance and programs available. FEMA individual assistance, the National Flood Insurance Program, and local government assistance will be presented. According to Linda Fischer, ISU Extension Education Director for Benton County and a member of the Disaster Relief Coalition, the Coalition wants to make sure that people clearly understand the types of assistance available and the sequence for available assistance. “Just because people have applied to FEMA does not mean the assistance process is over. There is more help available for those who have a need”, says Fischer.
The meeting is being sponsored by the newly formed Benton County Disaster Relief Coalition. The coalition members are representatives of many local service agencies and organizations, the hospital, and churches to provide ongoing assistance with the flood disaster and any future disasters in Benton County. More details about the Coalition and its purpose will be presented at the meeting.
Anyone wanting more information about the meeting can contact Linda Fischer at the Benton County Extension Office, phone: 319-472-4739 or Scott Hansen, Benton County Emergency Management Director at phone: 319-472-4519.
