W-SR cross country teams win N-P Invitational titles

NASHUA-Waverly-Shell Rock claimed top honors in both the varsity boys' and girls' varsity team competition at Tuesday's Nashua-Plainfield Invitational.

The Go-Hawk boys finished with 20 points, followed by Rockford 66, Nashua-Plainfield 69 and Riceville 109.

The W-SR girls had 26 points, followed by Nashua-Plainfield 46, Riceville 74 and Rockford 86.

Dan Rediske of W-SR (rated 16th in Class 3A) won the boys' race with a time of 17:09. Teammate Patrick Huff was second at 17:22, while Kirk Lehmann was fourth in 17:23, Chris Janssen sixth in 18:12, Daniel Huff seventh in 18:20, Tanner Ackermann 12th in 19:16 and Coty Hampton 13th in 19:29.


"I was pleased with how well our times were for the challenging course.  Our varsity squad continues to close the spread between our top five kids," said W-SR coach Kevin Kueker. 

For-N-P, Kevin Klobassa was fifth in 17:50, Dillon Roach 10th in 18:59, Joshua Lehman 15th in 20:07, Brice Dietz 19th in 20:40, Blake Dietz 20th in 20:47, Luke Baxter 22nd in 21:51 and Kory Klingman 31st in 24:25.

"The course tested us mentally for three miles, and I'm happy how we responded," said N-P coach Mark Wilson.

Jonny Worley of North Butler was eighth in 18:23. Alex Johnson was 14th in 19:45, Kaleb Hendrix 25th in 22:20 and Casey Yerkes 28th in 23:09.

Clare Boerigter of Waverly-Shell Rock won the girls' race with a time of 17:04. Shannon Stewart and Sarah Cashman finished fourth and fifth, respectively, both in 17:47. Hannah Mick was sixth in 18:12, while Anna Haywood was 10th in 18:43, Mari Springer 11th in 18:53 and Michelle Anderson 12th in 19:10.

Callie Matthews of Nashua-Plainfield was second in 17:21. Cassie Martin placed seventh in 18:20, Chelsey Wedeking eighth in 18:27, Alli Zwanziger 13th in 19:23 and Alicia Martin 16th in 20:04.

"We attacked this hilly course and fought the whole race. This was our best effort of the year," said Wilson.

For North Butler, Larissa Osier was 21st in 21:25 and Enrica Steiner 27th in 26:05.
