Landis finishes training

COLUMBIA, S.C - Army Reserve Pvt. Anthony W.C. Landis has graduated from basic military training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C., to be a member of the Army National Guard or Reserve Split-option Program.

The program allows students between their junior and senior year of high school to attend national guard or reserve weekend drills while still in school and pursue a military career specialty after they graduate from high school.

During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches, and field training exercises.

He is the son of Tonja Hard of W. Washington Ave., Urbana and grandson of Cindy and Chuck Hard of Thompson St. S.E., Cedar Rapids.


The private is a student at Washington High School, Cedar Rapids.
