STRAWBERRY POINT - Pat Peck took a correspondence course that would change her life forever.

Pat, who is originally from Minnesota, moved to the Quad Cities. She then met her husband in Iowa City. They married and lived in Park Forest, Ill. before retiring to Guttenberg in 1995.

In the mid 1970’s, Pat took an at-home study course with the Famous Artists School and started painting. With this correspondence course, Pat would paint, and then send her work in to be critiqued, and then the work was sent back with corrections.

After finishing the course Pat says she piddled around with painting, but wanted to learn more. In the middle 1980’s, Pat went to a wildlife art show. She was inspired by the type and quality of paintings that she saw there.

She concentrated especially on the landscaping pictures. Her love for art continued to grow. Pat continued to take courses in art, even as far away as Italy. She travels a lot and takes pictures of the places she visits. From her travels, she creates her paintings. When her camera isn’t working, she has a sketch book which becomes her picture album. Pat also custom paints and is happy to paint from photographs or paint anything suggested from potential customers. She has sold her art work at German Fest and Eagle Watch both in Guttenberg. She has also displayed her work at the Opera House in Elkader. Now due to a new Gallery opening in Strawberry Point late spring of this year, she has several of her paintings on display and for sale there. Pat loves to paint landscapes and birds. She has painted several birds from Central America. Pat claims that painting is her love. To see Pat’s Paintings, visit Mission Street Gallery in Strawberry Point, Iowa, or call Pat at 563-252-3003.
