INDEPENDENCE — Ivan Sutton enjoyed his first airplane ride at the age of 100 from the Independence Municipal Airport June 23. Ivan said, “I hope it’s not my last one.” Ivan lives in Independence. Ivan’s birth date was February 4, 1909.
INDEPENDENCE - The end of the ordeal may soon be in sight. Problems surrounding a planned band trip to Hawaii surfaced last summer after the tour operator failed to return money for a canceled trip.
INDEPENDENCE — A special meeting of the Independence City Council has been set for today at 6 p.m.
INDEPENDENCE - Public Health will be moving across town. The move will mean a return to the agency’s former stomping grounds.

CEDAR FALLS-Jesup’s J-Hawk softball squad made short work of the NU High Panthers Wednesday afternoon, rolling to a 16-0 North Iowa Cedar League Eastern Division triumph in four innings.
A pair of basketball camps are scheduled for Independence in July.
JESUP-Monday’s non-conference baseball battle between the Jesup J-Hawks and the Oelwein Huskies featured a little bit of everything.
